“Please stop wearing Hollister and Abercrombie. Buy something at Goodwill. You’ll be teased more if your outfit cost $300 than if it’s worth 50₵.”
Ayla, SJHS class of 2014
For me and probably many other teenage girls, when I wake up in
the morning, the first thing I think about is “What am I going to wear?” I
probably took this advice deeper than what Ayla intended. Wearing more expensive
and popular clothing doesn’t make you cooler, in fact now a days it makes you
lamer. If you wear more unique clothing and stuff that really represents you, it
adds a personal touch and can say something about you with no words needed. Plus
outrageous clothing--to me—looks a lot better than the shirt everyone has.
Expressing yourself is important, especially in high school. You can express
yourself in whatever you do, art, music, writing. If you wear certain items that
show what you like and feel, it can attract people with similar interests. On
the other hand, some kids going into high school are scared to be a little funky
and break away from being “normal”. We all need to stop putting others down for
what they enjoy, and appreciate all cultures. Maybe Ayla just hates Hollister
and Abercrombie, I’m not sure, but thank you for the great advice.
