Sock Dolls
Being an only child really doesn't have many perks when you're a young child. Endless
days of playing alone got boring and tiresome. I would think about different
animals that I would imagine in my head. It sounds strange now, looking back on
how I would actually get worked up and angry knowing that I would never be able
to see these fictional characters and have them for my own. The next best thing
to having real living ideas, would be having stuffed animals of them. Having a
physical copy of something can almost make it feel real for a moment.
Always being creative since a very young age, I would cut socks and other common
fabric items and stuff them to make a physical copy of the image imprinted in my
head. With all of this imagining you would assume I would develop problems being
able to diffrentiate reality vs. fiction, but it actually helped me realize the
beauty in our world and open my eyes to nature. Not saying I'm happy I spent
most of my childhood summers alone, but it did make me appreciate much more.
Seeing people, looking around, conversations. Realizing the greatness in being
alone is most often overlooked. As I got older, I made more friends and stopped
making sock dolls, but it did help me. Being alone doesn't mean you have to be
lonely, I never was you just have to fill your brain and expand your
imagination.
